MOT Facts

All vehicles in the UK that are 3 years older or more are required by law to have an MOT. This is to ensure the vehicle is fit for purpose and in roadworthy condition.

Vehicles require different tests based on their 'MOT class'. At Walters Motor group we can provide tests for the following classes:
Class 4 - Cars with up to 8 passenger seats, including light vans
Class 7 - Large vans and goods vehicles weighing from 3,000-3,500kg

MOT tests feature 3 main categories of defect:
  • Dangerous: This is classed an immediate risk to road safety and/or the environment. This is an automatic fail. It is advised to stop driving immediately.
  • Major: It may affect road safety and/or the environment. This is an automatic fail. Repair is advised immediately.
  • Minor: No significant effect but recommended to be repared as soon as possible.
Each MOT has the following checks carried out as standard:
  • Lights, reflectors and electrical equipment
  • Steering and suspension
  • Brakes
  • Tyres and road wheels
  • Seat Belts and restraint systems
  • Exhaust, fuel and emissions
  • Driver's view of the road
